Details: According to Corriere Della Serra, the conflict erupted after a prominent local resident learned that his daughter's boyfriend had shared an intimate recording without her consent. In retaliation, an attack was planned to find and punish the teenager responsible for the leak.
The attackers moved around Naples on a stolen scooter. According to police reports, the group included the criminal ringleader himself, his 16-year-old son, and another accomplice. But instead of their intended target, they opened fire on another teenager sitting in a car, next to Catanzaro.
The footballer, who played for lower-division Italian sides Rione Terra Calcio and Monteruscello Calcio, suffered severe abdominal injuries. He managed to reach his father-in-law's house, who rushed him to Pellegrini Hospital. The young player spent nearly two months in intensive care, but doctors were unable to save him—he passed away on Monday morning.
Police confirmed that Catanzaro had no involvement in the dispute between the groups. His death was a tragic consequence of brutal revenge gone wrong.
