Athletes competing under neutral flags will not participate in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris.

During a press conference by the Executive Board of the IOC, it was announced that athletes permitted to compete in the Olympics under a neutral flag will not be present at the opening ceremony. Additionally, the IOC has approved the establishment of a commission that will individually assess athletes for compliance with neutrality criteria. Furthermore, in the event of their admission and subsequent medal acquisition, these awards will not be counted towards the Olympic tally.

It is worth recalling that there were numerous controversies regarding the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Nevertheless, they were eventually allowed to compete, but the Vice President of the International Olympic Committee, John Coates, stated that only 40 athletes would be eligible to participate.

Currently, 12 athletes from Russia hold Olympic spots for Paris 2024, with a projected total of 36. Additionally, on Tuesday, March 19, it was reported that Russian boxers will not participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
