It has been revealed which national teams have reached the AFCON quarter-finals most often in the 21st century
At the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, eight national teams remain in contention for the title. It is now known which of them have reached the quarter-finals most frequently in this century.
Details: According to Opta, in the 21st century Côte d'Ivoire and Nigeria have reached the quarter-finals nine times each, setting a tournament record. Tunisia and Cameroon have also advanced to the quarter-final stage on eight occasions.
Three of these four national teams will feature in the quarter-finals of this edition as well. Only Tunisia failed to make it this far, having been eliminated in the round of 16 by Mali.
Notably, the eight national teams still in the tournament have collectively won all 22 Africa Cup of Nations titles. In addition, together they have played a total of 732 matches throughout the tournament’s history.
The teams that have reached the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations are Mali, Senegal, Cameroon, Morocco, Egypt, Côte d'Ivoire, Algeria and Nigeria. The upcoming fixtures have also been determined.
