English football has been rocked by controversy surrounding the Championship final and Southampton’s disqualification, with the club having lodged an appeal.

Details: The Saints challenged the decision, and the outcome of that appeal has now been confirmed. According to David Ornstein, the club lost its appeal and will not feature in the Championship play-off final. Their place will instead be taken by Middlesbrough, who will face Hull City.

We previously reported that the Saints’ hierarchy fully admitted responsibility for multiple breaches of regulations linked to the covert and unauthorised filming of other clubs’ closed training sessions.

Southampton will be hit with a severe four-point deduction in the Championship standings at the start of the 2026/27 season.

Reminder: The Championship play-off final between Middlesbrough and Hull City will take place on Saturday, May 23.
