With just under two years until the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it has been confirmed that one national team will not be competing in the tournament.
Details: According to federal sources, Russia’s national team has been excluded from the qualification draw for the 2026 World Cup.
"Russia will not be included in the qualification draw for the World Cup. The team is barred from participating in the qualification round due to safety concerns. UEFA and FIFA have maintained their stance on Russia’s suspension since the initial decision was made. The team will not be eligible to compete in the World Cup," the statement reads.
The UEFA zone qualification draw for the 2026 World Cup is scheduled to take place on December 13.
Reminder: Russia, along with all Russian clubs, has been banned from FIFA and UEFA competitions since February 24, 2022, following the country’s invasion of Ukraine.
