Amnesty International Calls on FIFA to Halt Saudi Arabia's 2034 World Cup Bid
FIFA faces mounting public pressure over its plans to award the 2034 World Cup to Saudi Arabia.
Details: International human rights organization, Amnesty International, has urged FIFA to postpone the vote, highlighting the grave human rights violations that could result from such a decision.
Quote: "Awarding the 2034 World Cup to Saudi Arabia without credible guarantees of reforms will result in real and predictable human costs. Fans will face discrimination, residents will be forcibly evicted, migrant workers will be exploited, and many will die," said Steve Cockburn, Amnesty's Head of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
Reminder: Saudi Arabia's bid is the only one in contention. FIFA's Congress is scheduled to formally approve the bid on December 11th without a vote.
