Is Jack Grealish's career on the decline? Tuchel reveals the whole truth
England head coach Thomas Tuchel has delivered his verdict on Jack Grealish after the midfielder was left out of Manchester City's squad for the Club World Cup.
Details: Once considered a key player for City, the 28-year-old midfielder endured a disappointing 2024/2025 season, putting his future at the club in serious doubt.
Grealish was a rare sight in the Premier League last season, making just seven starts and logging only 715 minutes—a dramatic drop for a player once seen as Pep Guardiola's creative engine.
His omission from City's squad in the decisive Premier League match against Fulham, as well as his exclusion from the FA Cup final roster, spoke volumes. On that occasion, Guardiola opted to hand 18-year-old Claudio Echeverri his debut from the bench—a move that marked the season's turning point for Grealish.
Tuchel was candid with Jack, offering this assessment:
I love Jack for his personality and, of course, for his talent. He's a very unique player who can handle immense pressure on the pitch. He's never shy under pressure. Quite the opposite—he thrives in big matches. But he's a player who needs minutes, minutes, and more minutes, and he just hasn't been getting them for a very long time. That's basically it. Nothing has changed.
So he needs to prove himself by playing. I think that's one of his main strengths—stepping onto the pitch every three days and getting better and better with every minute he plays. That's what he's missing right now. I spoke to him after the first international break and soon after the FA Cup final, but not since then.
