The return of the star striker to his boyhood club, Brazilian Santos, is failing to deliver the anticipated economic and marketing boom. The club is facing a significant loss of sponsors and waning fan interest.

Details: According to the reputable Brazilian outlet UOL, Santos has lost five commercial sponsors in recent weeks alone. These losses are estimated to cost the club around $20 million a year. At present, five sponsorship slots on the team’s jersey remain vacant.

In addition, the club's membership program has seen a sharp decline: the number of official members has dropped from a peak of 70,000 to just 50,000. This comes in stark contrast to the management’s initial plans to attract up to 100,000 members following the arrival of the star forward.
