Is a scandal brewing? The Newcastle player is dismayed by the choice of the team's captain
Newcastle has appointed a new captain for the 2024/25 season: midfielder Bruno Guimarães. It appears not all players are pleased with this decision.
According to insider Craig Hope, right-back Kieran Trippier is disheartened by the change in captaincy. The loss of the captaincy, as revealed earlier this week, is one of the reasons behind his desire to leave the team.
In the season opener against Southampton, Trippier spent the entire match on the bench, with Eddie Howe opting for Tino Livramento instead. Additionally, Trippier was angered by being stripped of the captaincy, which was handed to Bruno Guimarães.
The 33-year-old right-back has already informed Newcastle's management of his desire to depart the club. Everton is considered the frontrunner to sign Trippier.
Last season, Trippier made 28 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, scoring 1 goal and providing 10 assists.
