International Olympic Committee extends suspension of Russian ice hockey team

The 2026 Winter Olympic Games are set to take place in Italy, where athletes from around the world will vie for coveted medals. Yet, it’s already clear who won’t be among the competitors.
Details: According to Sportsnet, the Russian national ice hockey team will miss the Olympics. The International Olympic Committee has extended their suspension due to the ongoing military actions in Ukraine.
The last time the Russian ice hockey squad took part in an IIHF-sanctioned event was at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Recently, Stockholm, Sweden, hosted the final of the Ice Hockey World Championship. The battle for the title of the world’s best team came down to Switzerland and the United States. The Stars and Stripes clinched the gold medals.
Reminder: The 2026 Winter Olympic Games will be held from February 6 to 22. These will be the fourth Olympic Games hosted by Italy (Cortina d’Ampezzo staged the Winter Olympics in 1956), and the first to be held in Milan.
