Inter Milan is close to extending the contract of their key striker Lautaro Martinez, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
According to the publication, both parties have discussed all the main aspects of the forthcoming deal and are ready to shake hands on it. It's reported that the new agreement for the Argentine forward with the club will last at least until 2028. Martinez's salary is expected to reach seven million euros per season, making him the highest-paid player in the team.
It's anticipated that the official announcement of the new deal with the forward will be made no later than the beginning of January.
Previously, the negotiations with Martinez were confirmed by Inter's CEO Giuseppe Marotta.
The 26-year-old forward, who also represents the Argentine national team, has been playing for Inter since 2018. In the current season, he has appeared in 19 matches across all competitions, scoring 15 goals and providing three assists. With 13 accurate strikes, Martinez leads the Serie A scoring charts by a considerable margin.
Inter currently tops the standings in the elite Italian division after completing 14 rounds. On December 9, Simone Inzaghi's team will host Udinese in Milan.
