Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has officially confirmed that the club's Brazilian striker João Pedro will be sidelined for several weeks with a muscle injury to his thigh.

Details: The Spanish coach delivered the disappointing news at his pre-match press conference, уточнив, что двадцатипятилетний форвард получил повреждение во время тренировочного занятия на прошлой неделе. According to the Blues boss, the club's medical department is already drawing up a rehabilitation programme, while the exact timeframe for the player's return will depend on the progress of the muscle recovery.

The loss of such a versatile forward is a major setback for Chelsea's coaching staff amid a hectic autumn schedule. Alonso stressed that the medical team will not rush the process, with the aim of reintroducing the Brazilian to full training only once the injury has completely healed, in order to prevent a recurrence.

It is worth noting that João Pedro joined the Blues after a sensational spell at Brighton, quickly earning the trust of the new coaching staff thanks to his outstanding finishing, physical power and ability to operate both as a centre-forward and in a deeper role. At the start of the current campaign, the striker had regularly helped Chelsea with his decisive contributions in the English Premier League.
