Infantino's time is up! Tebas demands change and slams FIFA's rotten system

Javier Tebas has launched a direct attack on the leadership of world football.

Details: La Liga president Javier Tebas delivered a scathing critique of FIFA chief Gianni Infantino, calling for him to step down. The Spanish football executive also condemned the idea of expanding the World Cup to 64 teams, reminding everyone of clubs' constant complaints about an overloaded fixture calendar. Tebas made his statement in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Tebas stated that Infantino's era at the helm of the organization has come to an end, but acknowledged that the current FIFA president still enjoys the support of the federations and the entire existing system.

"I believe Infantino's time is over. But he has the backing of the system and the federations, so there's not much more to add.

This is the system—and it's rotten to the core. It can't go on like this, but the current situation means he won't step down," Tebas said.

The La Liga boss also admitted that while in the United States, he heard criticism of Infantino from many football insiders. However, according to him, none of them are taking any concrete action.

"I don't know what's worse—silence or complicity. Because those who remain silent fully understand the damage being done to football right now," the executive added.

It’s also worth noting that Gianni Infantino intends to run for another term as FIFA president. The elections for the 2027–2031 cycle are set for March 18, 2027, in Morocco.
