Inexperience! Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Ben Youssef is adamant their lack of experience in this competition was the reason they lost to Al Masry
Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Ben Youssef Khalid cited inexperience at Kaizer Chiefs for their 2-1 loss against Egyptian side Al Masry.
Amakhosi left North Africa last night with no point from their opening Caf Confederation Cup group match.
“This was the first time that more than 80 percent of our players experienced this level of continental football,” Ben Youssef said after the match.
“It’s very different from the PSL. Here you must be more focused, more aggressive. At this level, matches are decided by very small details. If you lose concentration for even one second, you can concede.”
Chiefs scored via right-back Dillon Solomons after he made a maze run into the opposition 18-yeard area to beat the goalkeeper hands down.
Bonheur Mugisha and Mohamed Hashem scored for the home side in each half.
The Tunisian-born coach said the draw was no a reflection of their effort at Suez Stadium.
“Looking at our performance, we deserved a minimum of a draw,” he explained. “But we have to learn from our mistakes. We’ll analyse the game, look at the positives and the negatives, and continue to work.”
This weekend Chiefs host Zamalek at Peter Mokaba Stadium in their second group match of the Confederations Cup.
