Incredible finale! Sporting clinch Portuguese championship for second consecutive season

On Saturday, May 17, the final round of matches unfolded in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Lisbon rivals Benfica and Sporting were locked in a remote battle to determine the nation's champion.
The teams entered the last round level on points. Sporting hosted Vitória Guimarães at home, and a victory would secure the "Lions" their second straight league title.
Benfica were away at Braga and needed not only to win but also to hope their main rivals slipped up. The "Eagles" couldn't overcome their opponents, settling for a draw. Meanwhile, Sporting handled Vitória in their parallel fixture. As a result, the "green and whites" successfully defended their Portuguese championship crown, lifting the Primeira Liga trophy for the 21st time in club history.
It's worth noting that next Sunday, May 25, these two sides will clash again in the decisive Portuguese Cup final. Benfica have not lifted the trophy since 2017, while Sporting last triumphed in 2019.
