Incredible cost. Man United spent over 200 million on former Ajax players

Yesterday, Manchester United officially announced two transfers from Bayern Munich, bringing central defender Matthijs de Ligt and right-back Noussair Mazraoui to Old Trafford.

These two players share more than just their arrival from Bayern—they both previously played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax. They were part of the Ajax team that reached the semifinals of the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League.

Since ten Hag took charge at Manchester United, the club has now signed five players who played under him at Ajax. In total, Manchester United has spent €272.4 million on these players:

• Antony - €95 million
• Lisandro Martínez - €57.4 million
• André Onana - €50 million
• Matthijs de Ligt - €50 million
• Noussair Mazraoui - €20 million

Manchester United started this season with a loss to Manchester City in a penalty shootout in the FA Community Shield. On Friday, August 16, ten Hag's team will face Fulham in their first Premier League match of the season.
