The performance of one of the Barcelona leaders has been criticized in Germany
Ilkay Gündogan, who made the move to Barcelona from Manchester City this summer, has become an indispensable player for the 'Blaugrana', featuring in all 24 matches played in La Liga and the Champions League under Xavi's guidance. However, his form for the German national team has prompted Ralph-Uwe Schaffert, the vice president of the German Football Association, to criticize his performances. Schaffert believes that Gündogan performs well exclusively for Barcelona but experiences a significant dip in form when playing for the national team.
Speaking to the Hannoversche Allgemeine, Schaffert said:
"Gündogan plays excellently for the club and then completely differently for the national team, one might think he sent his less talented twin brother. I do not understand it."
The German team has been going through challenging times following the 2022 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the group stage. The national team changed coaches, transitioning from Hansi Flick to Julian Nagelsmann, but their fortunes haven't changed much. They remain winless in their last three international matches, including defeats to Turkey and Austria.
