Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho finally opened his goal account for Middlesbrough in their 2-1 comeback win over Oxford United at Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

A Much-Needed Breakthrough

Iheanacho, who had failed to score in his first seven appearances, found the net just before halftime to cancel out Michal Helik’s 38th-minute opener for Oxford. Boro gained the momentum to win all three points as the Nigerian attacker tapped in from a cross by Samuel Illing-Junior.

Iheanacho posted on social media after achieving his objective, saying, "Man is not God, the 1st of many."

A Watershed in a Challenging Season

The 28-year-old had a difficult time at Leicester City before relocating to Sevilla, where he was unimpressive. His struggles cost him a spot in Nigeria’s squad for the recent World Cup qualifiers, but his latest goal could mark a turning point.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali celebrated his compatriot’s breakthrough, posting on Instagram: "I’m happier than you, brother!"

Carrick Praises Iheanacho’s Mentality

Boro boss Michael Carrick lauded the striker’s resilience, especially after missing a big chance earlier in the game.

"Strikers love scoring goals, and Kel knows that. He will be a bit frustrated with the first-half miss, but that’s football. The key is to keep getting into the right positions, and he did that perfectly."

Playoff Race Heats Up

Middlesbrough is currently in seventh place in the Championship with seven games remaining, just outside of the playoff spots based on goal differential. Iheanacho might be the key to being promoted to the Premier League if he keeps up his scoring streak.
