Odion Ighalo believes Al Wehda’s narrow 1-0 victory over Al Fateh on Saturday night could be the turning point in their battle for Saudi Pro League survival, describing the win as feeling like “six points”.

The Nigerian striker, who played 68 minutes in the intense Matchweek 31 clash in Jeddah, praised his side’s resilience and determination after they secured a crucial three points that lifted them out of the drop zone.

Al Noor’s Early Strike, Wehda’s Defensive Grit

Abdulaziz Al Noor gave Al Wehda the perfect start, finishing off a swift counterattack just eight minutes in. That early goal proved decisive as the Mecca-based side held firm against a wasteful Al Fateh, registering their first win in three matches.

The victory moved Al Wehda to 14th place on 32 points, two clear of 16th-placed Al Orobah, who face league champions Al Hilal next.

“Every Game is a Final” – Ighalo

“This is like six points for us,” said Ighalo post-match. “We know if we win this game, we have a chance to stay in the league. Every game for us is a final. It’s very tough, but we go to the next game to fight.”

Ighalo, who has 5 goals and 2 assists in 29 league matches this season, acknowledged the personal struggles he’s faced but remains committed to helping the team stay afloat.

Relegation Battle Heats Up

The RSL relegation battle is extremely close, with several teams separated by only a few points. Al Wehda (14th), Al Khaleej (10th), and Al Kholood (11th) are all within two points of one another, and the 2024–25 campaign still has three rounds left.

Al Wehda's run-in includes clashes with Al Qadsiah, Al Hilal, and Al Ettifaq—a tough stretch that will demand maximum focus.

Still, with Ighalo’s leadership and the team’s renewed fighting spirit, Saturday’s win may prove to be the breakthrough moment in their quest to stay in the top flight.
