British heavyweight Moses Itauma (13-0, 11 KOs) has explained why a potential bout with undisputed world champion Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) is highly unlikely.

Details: In an interview with Shawn Zittel and Shawn Porter, the young boxer admitted that he is confident in his chances, but understands that this might not translate into actually getting the fight.

“The reason I want to fight Usyk is because I genuinely believe I can beat him. As Mayweather used to say: if you don't see yourself as the best, you have no place in this sport. Whenever I step into the ring, I always have a chance to win. But it might turn out that I won't get the chance to fight at all,” Itauma said.

According to the Brit, the main risk for Usyk is losing everything he's accomplished if he slips up:

“If Usyk steps into the ring with me and I win, it erases everything he's achieved. Everything he has accomplished. I think that's exactly what holds this fight back. But I’d love to share the ring with him – even if it’s just in a real bout or a sparring session.”

Itauma’s next fight is scheduled for January 24 in Manchester, where he will headline the Magnificent 7 event, dedicated to promoter Frank Warren’s 45 years in the business. His opponent will be Jermaine Franklin.

Reminder: Joseph Parker failed an anti-doping test.
