The 2025/2026 biathlon season will be an Olympic one, with the Winter Games taking place from February 6 to 22, 2026. In preparation for one of the most critical seasons of the four-year cycle, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) is considering an unexpected change.

Details: Normally, the biathlon season begins in late November. However, according to Norwegian broadcaster NRK, the IBU is considering launching the 2025/2026 season with a showcase race in Munich on October 19. As of now, no final decision has been made, and the IBU has been cautious in commenting on these plans. It’s confirmed, though, that this race would not count toward the World Cup standings.

Reminder: The 2024/2025 biathlon season will kick off with a World Cup stage in Kontiolahti, Finland, on November 30. Italian biathlete Dorothea Wierer has previously announced her intention to compete at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
