"I was drinking every day, even before the fight." Ryan Garcia opens up about battling depression
American lightweight of Mexican descent Ryan Garcia has opened up about his battle with depression over the past few years.
The welterweight boxer admitted that he had been struggling with severe alcohol problems for a long time.
Quote: "I'm surprised I'm even here right now. I was drinking every day, even on the day of the fight. I was just trying to cope with what was happening inside. I've been battling mental issues for years, and it just couldn't stop for me.
The turning point was realizing, like, 'Damn, brother, I messed up my life.' You know, and getting arrested was a big part of that. And almost losing my child was a huge part of it," Garcia told the YouTube channel RING CHAMPS.
Reminder: Garcia is set to return to the ring on May 2. Ryan is scheduled to fight Rolando Romero.
It was previously reported that the controversial boxer was sued.
