“I wanted to cry”: Kyle Walker opens up about his departure from Manchester City
AC Milan defender Kyle Walker admitted that leaving Manchester City, where he spent almost 8 years, was incredibly difficult for him. In The Kyle Walker Podcast for BBC Sounds, he revealed that he even had to hold back tears when bidding farewell to the team and all the club staff.
Walker shared that he asked the club manager to gather the entire team in the cafeteria so he could say goodbye to them. Eventually, 150 people gathered, including club staff such as cleaners, cooks, physiotherapists, kit men, and others.
“There was the lady there, Emma, that would be behind the counter and serve you food, or get your drinks and whatever, and even when I looked over at her, I wanted to cry because it was like every day I've said, "Morning" to you and given you a cuddle, and all of a sudden now I'm not going to see you anymore, and you don't think about that when the process is happening, but then when you come to say goodbye, it's hard,” Walker confessed.
The Englishman also stated that he chose Milan as his next club because he saw it as an opportunity to experience playing in a different league and embrace a different culture. He also admitted that Milan is one of those clubs to which you simply cannot say no.
