Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville shared an amusing story during an interview on The Overlap about his encounter with former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius, whom he had harshly criticized in the past.

Neville’s remarks stemmed from Karius’ infamous performance in the 2018 Champions League final against Real Madrid. The German goalkeeper made two glaring errors, leading to a 1-3 defeat for Liverpool.

Later, it was revealed that Karius had played much of the match with a concussion, but Neville, unaware of this at the time, was scathing in his critique, stating Liverpool would never win the Champions League with Karius in goal.

Some time later, while visiting a gym in Italy, Neville unexpectedly ran into Karius.

“He could have done many things there and could have had a go at me. It went right through my head on what I said about him, and I know he would’ve known that. But he shook my hand and said, ‘Nice to see you’ and I felt guilty bumping into someone I’ve given a harsh line to,” Neville recalled.

Karius’ composed and gentlemanly demeanor left a lasting impression on Neville, showing no hint of resentment or ill will. A true class act from the former Liverpool goalkeeper!
