"I plead guilty!" Man accused of stalking WNBA star Caitlin Clark testifies in court
Michael Lewis, the man accused of stalking WNBA basketball star Caitlin Clark, appeared in an Indiana court and unexpectedly pleaded guilty to all charges before the trial began, TMZ reports.
Lewis was arrested in Indianapolis following allegations that he sent "disturbing" messages to Clark during December and January.
During the Tuesday hearing, Lewis declared his guilt, even though the presiding judge clarified that his statement was unnecessary. The judge also emphasized Lewis' right to remain silent and advised him to exercise it, suggesting he avoid speaking to anyone except his attorney while in custody.
Despite the warnings, Lewis continued to act erratically, later complaining about his medications. Ultimately, he was assigned a public defender, and his official plea was recorded as "not guilty."
The court issued a restraining order, mandating Lewis to stay away from Clark. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison. His bail has been set at $50,000.
