"I couldn't finish reading the letter": Swiatek explains how she took her suspension
At the end of 2024, the shocking news broke that Polish tennis player Iga Świątek had been suspended for doping. The news was just as surprising for the athlete herself.
Details: Świątek revealed that she took the news emotionally and was unable to finish reading the letter informing her of the suspension.
Quote: "I was in the city center, having my appointments, and specifically, it was a photo shoot. My reaction was very strong. Luckily, my managers were with me, because I couldn’t even finish reading the letter that informed me of the suspension. We were all in tears," Świątek said in the documentary Four Seasons of Iga.
Reminder: Tests revealed that a banned substance, trimetazidine, was found in Świątek's blood. The suspension was relatively short because the substance entered her system accidentally, through a sleep aid product made and sold in Poland. Świątek reached a deal with anti-doping authorities, admitted her mistake, and received a suspension from September 22 to October 4.
