"I couldn't breathe": Tennis star Emma Raducanu recalls encounter with stalker at Dubai tournament
Tennis star Emma Raducanu shared her experience of dealing with a deranged stalker who followed her during a match at the Dubai tournament, reports the Daily Mail. The athlete admitted she went through intense stress, which made it hard for her to breathe.
"I saw him in the first game of the match. I was distraught. I was thinking, I don't know how I'm going to finish. I literally couldn't see the ball through the tears. After the match, I completely broke down in tears. There was just so much emotion. I needed a week off to take a breather. I feel a lot better," Raducanu revealed.
After the Dubai tournament ended, Emma returned to her parents in London, where she spent a week resting and doing nothing. She has now arrived at Indian Wells in California, where she has been provided with enhanced security. Raducanu also admitted that she now tries not to go anywhere alone.
It should be noted that in Dubai, Raducanu was stalked by an individual who had also followed her in four other countries. He was later detained by the police. Although the tennis player refused to press charges, the court still issued a restraining order preventing him from approaching the athlete or attending her matches.
