"I benched Pogba for him" - Mourinho comments on McTominay after receiving a special gift
After the Champions League Matchday 6 clash between Benfica and Napoli (2-0), Portuguese head coach José Mourinho received a special gift—a shirt from Scott McTominay. It was Mourinho who handed McTominay his Manchester United debut back in 2017. The Portuguese tactician had only kind words for his former player.
Details: At the post-match press conference following the victory over Napoli, Mourinho expressed his delight at the gift and, with a touch of humor, recalled their earlier days together.
“I benched Pogba for him—the least he could do was give me his shirt,” Mourinho joked.
Mourinho added that McTominay was a bit disappointed after the defeat, but that's only natural for top-level players:
“He was a little down, but that's Scott; he's a player who fights for the win. We share a strong bond—he'll remember me even when he's 70.” the Portuguese manager said.
This season, the Scotsman has featured in twenty matches for the Neapolitan club, tallying five goals and two assists.
Reminder: Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly disappointed at Manchester United and wants to go on loan to Napoli.
