Hugo Broos on his retirement from Bafana Bafana after the World Cup: I would like us to have the best possible tournament then I can leave happy
Hugo Broos is not thinking about the end of his term with Bafana Bafana as yet.
Talk has been that the Belgian-born coach would leave South African national team post after the global showpiece has been confirmed by him in the past.
This is because he was last in the 1986 edition of the World Cup in Mexico, Broos played for Belgium and he saw this year’s tournament hosted by USA, Mexico and Canada as coming full circle.
Broos, now 73, eyed the upcoming global spectacle as the one to close his coaching career.
But he seems to have changed from that saying he aims to see Bafana dish out an impressive display.
"I’m not thinking about the end; the most important thing for me is how we can have the best possible World Cup, a better major tournament performance than the one we had in Morocco (2025 Africa Cup of Nations),” he said.
The former Cameroon national team coach said a good showing by Bafana at the World Cup would allow him to leave the Bafana post.
"If I stop, I want it to be a nice ending to my career, and I will do everything in the next three months to succeed and have a very good World Cup," he concluded as he prepares Bafana to face Panama in the Fifa international break currently underway.
