How serious is it? Bayern have lost a defender to injury

Bayern Munich has confirmed that defender Josip Stanišić tore the lateral ligament in his right knee during a training session on Monday.

The Croatian footballer will be sidelined for several weeks due to the injury.

"We have a good squad, and we're well-equipped. When injuries occur - like with Hiroki Ito - the first question is whether we'll make any moves in the transfer market. Planning is one thing, but hopefully, the guys will return soon.

Josip had surgery today, and we hope it went well. But we haven't heard anything yet, as he's probably still under anesthesia. He'll come back, and then the squad will be complete. That's why we have a large squad - not too large - to handle situations like this," commented sporting director Max Eberl on the defender's injury.

Last season, Stanišić was on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, where he won the Bundesliga title. After a successful season, Bayern is counting on him as a key player in the first team.

In July, the Croatian right-back extended his contract with the Munich club until 2029.

It's also worth noting that Bayern's winger recently returned to team training after recovering from an injury.
