Hossam Hassan, the coach of Egypt's national team, has confirmed that Mohamed Awad will be the starting goalkeeper for the Pharaohs in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Botswana. This choice was made after carefully considering all possible options, with Awad's recent impressive performances for Zamalek giving him the edge over Al Ahly's Mostafa Shobair.

In a recent team update, Ibrahim Hassan, the national team director, announced that key players Mohamed El-Shennawy and Hamdy Fathy will not be playing in the Botswana match. Both players are suspended because they received their second yellow cards in the previous game against Cape Verde, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Egypt have already secured qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, topping Group C with 13 points, and the final qualifier against Botswana will be played on Tuesday at Cairo International Stadium, with Egypt aiming to finish the campaign on a high.
