Horror! La Liga club banned from playing at their home stadium! What happened?

Back in May, Rayo Vallecano was playing in a European final, but now the club doesn’t even know where they’ll host their upcoming home matches.

Details: The Community of Madrid has revoked Rayo Vallecano’s concession for the Vallecas stadium and taken direct control of the venue to carry out urgent repairs. Authorities stated that the current condition of the stadium could not guarantee the health and safety of people.

An audit revealed serious issues with fire safety systems, electrical installations, facility maintenance, and required technical documentation. The report described the stadium’s condition as generally obsolete and in gross violation of current regulations.

The repairs are set to begin immediately and, according to preliminary estimates, will take between two and six months. This means Rayo Vallecano will have to urgently find an alternative venue for their home fixtures. The first match of the new season against Alavés is scheduled for August 20.

The club expressed surprise at the decision, which came just before the start of the championship. Rayo has ten days to file an appeal, but until the violations are resolved, the team will not be able to play at Vallecas. Both La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation have already been notified of the situation.

It’s worth noting that on May 27, Rayo Vallecano played in the first European final in the club’s history, falling 0-1 to Crystal Palace in the decisive match of the Conference League.
