Historic triumph in Shanghai! Antonelli brings Italy its first Formula 1 victory in 20 years
The 2026 Chinese Grand Prix will forever be etched in motorsport history.
Details: Young Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli clinched his maiden victory, turning this achievement into a national celebration for Italy. The last time an Italian stood on the top step of the podium was a distant 20 years ago, in 2006, when Giancarlo Fisichella triumphed.

The race was nothing short of dramatic for Antonelli. Starting from pole position, the Italian lost out in the first corner to a Ferrari, but never let his rivals pull away. Demonstrating a composure rarely seen in rookies, the Mercedes driver regained the lead and confidently controlled the race all the way to the checkered flag, finishing ahead of his teammate George Russell.
Another major highlight of the race was Lewis Hamilton’s success. The Briton, in his debut season with his new team, battled fiercely with teammate Charles Leclerc to secure third place. This marks the first podium for the seven-time world champion in the iconic red of Ferrari.
Reminder: The Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix will not take place in April due to the situation in the Middle East.
