Érik Lira is on the brink of the biggest European move of his career.

Details: According to renowned insider Fabrizio Romano, Monaco have reached a verbal agreement with Cruz Azul for Mexican midfielder Érik Lira. The French club will pay €8 million as a guaranteed fee, while another €3 million could follow in add-ons. Cruz Azul have also secured a 20% sell-on clause as part of the agreement.

However, the transfer has not yet reached the signing stage. Romano reports that Monaco must first free up an additional place in their squad. Once that final obstacle is removed, the deal can proceed to the paperwork and signature stage. Lira therefore remains a Cruz Azul player for the moment, despite the verbal agreement between the clubs.

The 26-year-old is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate at centre-back. He has been with Cruz Azul since January 2022 and his current contract with the Mexican club runs until June 2029. It is worth noting that Transfermarkt currently values the Mexico international at €12 million, with the latest valuation dated May 20, 2026.
