Here we go! Barcelona sign 16-year-old wonderkid
Barcelona continue to invest in young talent, securing an agreement to bring another promising European footballer to their academy.
Details: According to renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign 16-year-old Portuguese attacking midfielder Dany Freire from Luxembourg club Racing FC Union. The youngster successfully passed his trial with the Catalan giants and is set to sign his contract with Barcelona today. All agreements have been reached, with only the remaining formalities to be completed.
Freire spent last season with Racing FC Union in Luxembourg before arriving in Catalonia for a trial this summer. The Portuguese youngster trained and played friendly matches with Barcelona's youth teams, impressing the coaching staff with his performances.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the attacking midfielder scored three goals during summer tournaments and was named MVP at one of the competitions. His performances convinced Barcelona to offer him a permanent place in their youth setup.
The 16-year-old is expected to begin his Barcelona career with the club's Juvenil B team. Freire turned 16 on September 19, allowing the Catalans to proceed with the formal registration of the Portuguese talent.
It is worth noting that Freire has already represented Portugal at U15 level and previously played for Luxembourg's youth national teams. During his time with Racing FC Union, he also featured in the UEFA Youth League and helped his team win the Luxembourg U17 Cup.
