He left the Bernabéu more than a year ago, but the Bernabéu clearly never left him. Luka Modrić has delivered a touching admission about his old club that will tug at the heartstrings of every Madridista.

Details: Speaking to El Larguero on Spanish radio, the AC Milan midfielder did not hide his feelings: I miss the Real Madrid fans and Real Madrid too. The 41-year-old Croatian, who joined Milan in the summer of 2025 after thirteen unforgettable seasons in Spain, added that he is enjoying life in Italy, but that the Rossoneri are in a transition period aimed at becoming great again, and that just like at Real Madrid, only winning matters.

The emotional pull of Madrid has been a recurring theme in Modrić's interviews since his departure. In September he told MARCA that the Spanish capital remains his home and that he hopes to return to Real Madrid in a non-playing capacity one day, insisting he would only come back to be useful rather than to simply occupy a chair. For now, though, his focus is entirely on Milan, where head coach Rúben Amorim has managed the veteran's minutes carefully this season, using him in Serie A while rotating a squad that also carries Europa League commitments. Modrić's role has evolved too: no longer the deep-lying playmaker of his first San Siro campaign, he now operates in a two-man midfield and serves as the dressing-room standard-bearer of a team rebuilding after Rafael Leão's sale to Galatasaray and a squad overhaul.

It's worth noting that Modrić remains one of the most decorated players in football history: across thirteen seasons at Real Madrid he won 28 trophies, including six Champions League titles, and claimed the 2018 Ballon d'Or. He is also still writing history with Croatia, having reversed a planned international retirement to continue under Slaven Bilić despite the painful 0-7 Nations League defeat to England, his country's heaviest ever loss. His Milan contract runs until June 2027, and judging by his enduring passion, ambition and strength, nobody would rule out another renewal for the eternal midfielder.

Reminder: "I'm ashamed" — Modrić makes an unexpected admission.
