On the eve of Liverpool's Champions League return, Alexis Mac Allister has laid bare a painful truth: the club are not offering him a new deal.

Details: Speaking ahead of Wednesday's opener against Atletico Madrid, the Argentine revealed he was told Liverpool are not in a position to offer him a new contract, calling it very, very sad. The 27 year old also confirmed he had options to leave this summer but chose to stay, and promised fans he will give 100% until his last day at the club.

The situation stings because of the contrast in the treatment of his midfield partners: Ryan Gravenberch signed a fresh deal in May and Dominik Szoboszlai is deep in talks over his own extension. Mac Allister, a 2022 World Cup winner who joined from Brighton in 2023 and lifted the Premier League in 2024-25, made clear he feels he has earned the same recognition, pointing to the trophies and difficult moments the trio shared. His current deal runs until 2028, and without an extension he gains leverage for a move next summer, with Manchester United and Real Madrid already circling in the rumor mill. For Liverpool, the risk is obvious: delay too long and a cornerstone of the title-winning midfield walks for free or is sold under pressure.

It's worth noting that Mac Allister insisted there is still time for the situation to change, and stressed he is at the right club with the right mindset despite the disappointment.

Reminder: Cherif Ndiaye announces his retirement from international football.
