The congested fixture schedule for many of Europe’s top clubs has become a widely discussed issue. Key players are expected to play up to three matches a week, leading clubs to devise strategies to rotate their squads and provide much-needed rest for their stars.
Details: Previously, there were reports of players expressing frustration over the intensity of the schedule. They claim that they will have only around three weeks of rest in the summer, while the number of matches in a season could reach 80.
Real Madrid is no exception to this challenge, and the club is already planning how to manage the workload of their key players. Los Blancos are set to play seven matches in the next 22 days, after which many players will join their national teams for further fixtures.
According to Diario AS, Real Madrid's new star signing, Kylian Mbappé, is determined to feature in all of these games, but head coach Carlo Ancelotti has different plans. The Italian coach intends to rest Mbappé in two matches, using him in five.
The matches against Alavés and Espanyol are where Mbappé is expected to be on the bench, while he will start in the fixtures against Real Sociedad, Atlético Madrid, and Villarreal in La Liga, as well as against Stuttgart and Lille in the UEFA Champions League.
Reminder: After four matches in La Liga, Real Madrid sits in second place in the table, with two wins and two draws. In the Champions League group stage, in addition to the aforementioned opponents, Los Blancos will also face Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, Liverpool, Atalanta, RB Salzburg, and Brest.
