He turned down the sheikhs' millions for Spain! Anthony Martial finds an unexpected club
Former Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has chosen a sporting project in Spain over eye-watering money from the Middle East.
Details: 30-year-old French striker Anthony Martial is on the verge of joining Spanish side Málaga. According to respected French outlet Foot Mercato, negotiations between the parties have reached an advanced stage, with the deal now extremely close to being officially completed.
In order to continue his career on the Iberian Peninsula, the Frenchman has accepted a massive financial sacrifice. Martial turned down offers from two Ligue 1 clubs, as well as an incredibly lucrative contract from Saudi side Al-Ittihad, who were ready to pay the striker €10 million net over two seasons, plus a €5 million signing bonus. The Frenchman has firmly decided to remain in European football and help the Andalusian club achieve its competitive objectives.
It is worth recalling that the star striker was a free agent and carefully weighed up his options for relaunching his career. Martial made his name primarily through his performances for Manchester United, making 317 appearances for the club and scoring 90 goals. The forward also has experience in Spain, having represented Sevilla on loan in 2022. He has also earned 30 caps for the France national team.
