The president of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, is under investigation for suspected attempts to interfere with Formula 1 races, as reported by BBC.

Sources indicate that the president of the governing body of motorsport, FIA, allegedly intervened and attempted to overturn a penalty imposed on Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2023. Both Ben Sulayem and the FIA have not responded to requests for comments.

It is reported that the FIA president contacted Sheikh Abdallah bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, who serves as the vice president of the FIA in the Middle East and North Africa region, and stated that Fernando Alonso's punishment should be revoked. It is expected that the Ethics Committee will take between four to six weeks to issue its report on the investigation into this situation.

It's worth noting that the new Formula 1 season has commenced, with the Bahrain Grand Prix being the first race as usual. Red Bull Racing driver and reigning champion Max Verstappen confidently crossed the finish line first, outpacing his closest pursuer by over 20 seconds. Behind the Dutchman, Sergio Perez finished second, while Ferrari's Carlos Sainz completed the podium for the Red Bull Racing drivers.
