After moving to Arsenal last summer, Kai Havertz needed time to adapt to Mikel Arteta's game, and that prompted the Gunners to slightly change their transfer plans.

The German has been a regular centre-forward for seven Premier League games now, scoring four goals and assisting five. This, according to The Mirror, is what prompted Arsenal to refuse to buy the experienced and expensive forward.

The arrival of a player with such a role at the Emirates is not ruled out, but Arteta could bring in a young striker who will have time to get stronger.

Arsenal's transfer policy will be much different to what was previously reported, as Brentford's Ivan Toney was linked with the Gunners, but the rather high price tag on him means that a move for the striker to London is now all but ruled out.
