SC DHfK Leipzig captain Lukas Binder shared candid insights about his personal and professional challenges during an episode of the Körperkulturfunk podcast.

Binder admitted that before becoming a husband and father, he led a life that felt meaningless and unfulfilling. It was only after the birth of his daughter and the support of his wife that he found a deeper purpose.

"Back then, my daily life mostly consisted of handball, playing PlayStation, and occasionally going to bars and drinking. That was my life," Binder recalled.

He also confessed to experiencing self-doubt throughout his career. At times, during matches, he found himself hoping his teammates wouldn’t pass him the ball out of fear of making mistakes. His performance on the court greatly affects his mood—after a good match, he enjoys cooking, but after a bad one, he prefers to lock himself in his room alone.

Reflecting on the early days of his career, Binder recalled playing in Germany’s third division, where his team trained in a dirty, rundown gym. Disliking the conditions, he would arrive two hours early to clean the floor himself with a mop before practice. This period shook his confidence and planted seeds of self-doubt that stayed with him for years.
