Gone following Southgate. Newcastle defender announced the retirement with the English national team
Seven years in the national team, 54 matches and two European Championship silverware - this is the result of the performances in the national team of England defender Kieran Trippier, who announced the end of his international career on 29 August.
The Newcastle player, who will turn 34 on 19 September, announced this decision on his Instagram:
‘Representing my country in 4 major tournaments is one of the biggest honours of my life.
I want to say a big thank you to Gareth and all the staff who have worked with the England national team for the trust they have placed in me over the years.
Thanks to all my team-mates - we have had some special moments, reaching 2 Euro finals and a World Cup semi-final, and I am sure this group of players will win a major tournament in the future.
I would like to wish Lee, the coaching staff and the team all the best for the future. Finally, a big thank you to all the England fans for your incredible support, for travelling all over the world to follow us and cheering us on in difficult moments.’
Notably, Trippier made his debut for the national team when it was managed by Gareth Southgate, and he will be the only coach the defender has worked with in the national team.
Southgate left the Three Lions after the European Championships, and the England national team enters the autumn cycle of the UEFA Nations League with interim head coach Lee Carsley.
