GOAT keeps delivering! Messi scores with his head and lifts record 49th career trophy. VIDEO
Lionel Messi has turned another big night into a historic one.
Details: Inter Miami defeated Cruz Azul 2-0 at Nu Stadium to win the 2026 Campeones Cup, and once again their captain was at the heart of everything. Messi opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a rare headed goal, meeting Luis Suárez's cross and sending the ball past Kevin Mier.
The goal carried extra significance for the Argentine. It was Messi's 100th goal for Inter Miami in all competitions, a milestone he reached in his 115th appearance for the Florida club.
Messi was not finished there. In the 81st minute, he delivered a corner into the penalty area and Casemiro headed home Inter Miami's second goal, sealing the trophy and giving the captain both a goal and an assist in the final.
The victory also gave Inter Miami their first Campeones Cup and their first piece of silverware at Nu Stadium. The club have now lifted a trophy in four consecutive seasons since Messi arrived in South Florida in 2023.
It is worth noting that the Campeones Cup became the record-extending 49th trophy of Messi's senior career. The 39-year-old remains the most decorated player in football history, while his Inter Miami scoring record now stands at 100 goals in 115 appearances.
Reminder: Messi's new boss has arrived: Inter Miami officially welcome Kily González to the dugout
