In the early hours of Sunday, the Club World Cup kicked off, this time taking place in the United States.

Details: The opening match of the revamped tournament featured Egyptian champions Al Ahly facing off against Leo Messi’s Inter Miami.

Both sides had plenty of chances to get on the scoresheet: after Telasco Segovia committed a foul in the penalty area, Al Ahly were awarded a spot-kick. Egyptian midfielder Trezeguet stepped up, but Miami goalkeeper Oscar Ustari read the shot perfectly and made the save, keeping his net untouched.

One of the match’s most memorable moments came from Leo Messi: deep into stoppage time, the Argentine maestro curled a high shot toward the top left corner. Mohamed El Shenawy pulled off an incredible save, securing a valuable first point for his team in the tournament.

Al Ahly will play their next match in the tournament on Thursday, with Palmeiras as their opponents, while Inter Miami will face Porto.
