GFA President Kurt Okraku Elected to CAF Executive Committee
Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has been elected to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee, establishing Ghana's leadership position in continental football.
Unopposed Victory for Okraku
Okraku campaigned unopposed for the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B) seat and received total support from member associations. His election was ratified by the CAF Elective Congress, which took place on March 12, 2025, in Cairo, Egypt.
Okraku completed the CAF's rigorous integrity and eligibility examinations prior to his confirmation, confirming his commitment to upholding African football's highest governance standards.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Okraku stated: “I am honored to serve Ghana, WAFU, and CAF, and I pledge to work tirelessly to promote the development of African football.”
Okraku’s Growing Influence in African Football
Since taking over the GFA leadership in 2019, Okraku has been a driving force in Ghanaian football development, championing measures to improve domestic leagues, youth programs, and foreign collaborations. In 2021, he was chosen President of WAFU Zone B, increasing his prominence in African football.
His selection to the CAF Executive Committee is expected to expand Ghanaian football representation, creating new prospects for investment, collaboration, and policy reforms in the sport.
A New Chapter in Ghanaian Football
Ghanaian football stakeholders have praised Okraku's election, anticipating a stronger presence for Ghana in African football's main decision-making body. Clubs such as Koforidua Semper Fi FC praised his leadership, describing it as a "moment of pride for Ghanaian football."
