Gayton Mckenzie rebukes Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana midfielder Relebohile Mofokeng on his comments after South Africa were knocked out of Afcon
Gayton Mckenzi has strongly rebuked Relebohile Mofokeng.
The South African Sports Minister told the midfielder he has not responsibility to take following Bafana Bafana’s last-16 exit in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Mofokeng, against Cameroon, missed a sitter in Morocco in the game which saw Bafana lose 2-1 to be knocked out of the Afcon tournament, told the media he took ‘responsibility’ for the loss.
Mofokeng seemed to blame himself for not converting that opportunity.
"I think that chance could have opened the game for us. I take responsibility that I should have scored," Mofokeng said.
But this was rebuked by Mckenzie as Mofokeng landed with his Bafana team-mates from North Africa.
"Let me tell you something," McKenzie said as he looked at Mofokeng in the eye.
"We win as a team, and we lose as a team. So you must never take any blame because when we win, we win as a team. You have played very well. Congratulations."
