The weigh-in for the boxing event in New York took place today ahead of the fight night scheduled for April 21st, with the main event being the bout between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia.

This fight was supposed to mark Haney's first title defense as the WBC super lightweight champion. However, Ryan Garcia will not be eligible to compete for the title as he exceeded the allowable limit by 3.2 pounds/1.45 kilograms during the weigh-in.

Despite this, the fight will still proceed. Moreover, according to the contract, Garcia will have to pay $500,000 for every pound over the limit. This means that now the American boxer's purse has been reduced by $1.5 million.

This will be the seventh bout between the boxers, but their first professional encounter. They faced each other six times previously in amateur boxing.

Garcia's last fight took place in December of last year, where he defeated Oscar Duarte. Haney, in December of last year, defeated Regis Prograis and won the championship title.
