Galatasaray lost to Shakhtar in court over the transfer of the striker

In August 2023, Galatasaray signed Brazilian striker Tete as a free agent from Shakhtar Donetsk.
This came after the player invoked FIFA's rule and suspended his contract with Shakhtar following the start of full-scale war in Ukraine. Shakhtar Donetsk claimed that Tete breached the rules by not notifying them of his intention to suspend the contract.
According to the Turkish club's website, FIFA's Dispute Resolution Chamber partially ruled in favor of the Ukrainian club, ordering Galatasaray and Tete to pay Shakhtar compensation amounting to €2,389,776. They are jointly responsible for this payment.
Additionally, Galatasaray and the Brazilian player will be required to pay Shakhtar additional compensation equivalent to 5% annual interest accruing until the payment is made.
Galatasaray plans to appeal this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.
