Gabriel Heinze is set to join Arsenal’s coaching team under Mikel Arteta, according to The Athletic. The 47-year-old Argentine will replace Carlos Cuesta, who left his role to become head coach of Parma following Christian Chivu’s move to Inter Milan.
Heinze had previously been linked to Arsenal in 2024 after a meeting with Arteta, during a time when he was also rumored as a candidate for the San Lorenzo job. Now, he joins the North London club as an assistant, stepping into a setup aiming to challenge again for major honors after finishing second in the Premier League for three straight seasons and reaching the Champions League semifinals last spring.
Heinze’s coaching career began in 2015 with a short-lived stint at Godoy Cruz, followed by successful spells at Argentinos Juniors—where he won the B Nacional—and Vélez. He later coached Atlanta United in MLS and most recently led Newell’s Old Boys, resigning in 2023 after a mid-table finish.
Joining Arsenal marks a new chapter for Heinze, offering him the chance to contribute from a supporting role at one of Europe’s top clubs.
